The Minister of Local Government, Kahinda Otafiire, is expected in Arua on Wednesday to resolve the dispute over the location of the new Maracha-Terego district headquarters.
A letter from the Local Government Ministry to Arua District Council states that Otafiire will chair the Arua District Council meeting which is expected to vote on the location of the new district headquarters.
There has been a serious disagreement over the location of the new Maracha-Terego district headquarters, after it was curved out of Arua district.
While residents of Maracha County argue the district headquarters should be located at Nyadri because of its level of development, the Terego residents maintain the headquarters should be located at Kubala because of its centrality.
The disagreement between residents of Maracha and Terego counties has deferred the official inauguration of the district which was expected to become operational on July 1st.
Efforts by the Arua District Local Council to intervene have failed. The council asked a technical team from Ministry of Local Government to arbitrate on the matter, after Terego councillors rejected a proposal to have all councillors vote on the matter.
