Bunyoro Warns Buganda over Buruuli Cultural Leader

Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom has protested plans by the Buganda Kingdom to install Hajjat Nsungwa as the cultural leader of Buruuli. The current of Buruuli is Isabaruuli Ssalongo Constantine Mwogezi Butamanya who was installed on the iith December 2004.

Henry Ford Mirima, the Publicity Secretary to the Omukama of Bunyoro-Kitara says Hajjat Nsungwa is not from the Babiito clan, the historical leaders of the area whose origin is Bunyoro.

In a detailed letter written in Runyoro to Dan Muliika, the Katiikiro of Buganda, Mirima says he is under instructions from Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru to ensure that Buganda does not re-colonize Buruuli. The bigger part of Buruuli is in Nakasongola district, neigbouring Masindi district.

Mirima was responding to a July 17th 2006 letter from Muliika to clan leaders of Buruuli to prepare way for Hajjat Nsungwa.

He says Buruuli belongs to Bunyoro and its cultural leaders are affiliated to Bunyoro and not Buganda. He says that for that reason, Bunyoro is responsible for the crowning of Isabaruuli.

Mirima warned that should the installation plans for Hajjat Nsungwa continue, Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom might be forced to fight Buganda and reclaim its land.
