Masindi Pupils Stranded without a School

News
Hundreds of pupils in Mirya sub-county, Masindi district are stranded with no classes, after the land on which their school is located was sold to a developer.

The 503 hectare piece of land was sold to the UPDF Air defence commander, Major General Jim Owoyesigyire, who plans to set up an orphanage. The sale also left more than 1,200 people homeless.

The District education Secretary, Kanaginagi Ateenyi, says the sale of the land has affected many parents whose children attended Kisuuga primary school, the only UPE primary school in the sub-county.

Kanaginagi says the school with more than 400 pupils will remain closed for the third term, while the district authorities try to find possibilities of relocating the school.

The land was also occupied by a catholic and protestant church.

Authorities at the Catholic Church have petitioned President Yoweri Museveni to intervene and halt the re-development of the land.
