A family of 24 has pitched camp at Parliament for fear of being killed over a land wrangle.
The family, which includes children as young as 2, says their lives are in danger following a land wrangle between them and a UPDF soldier identified as Captain James Tumushabe.
Minsach Kinini, one of the family members, says they bought the 32 acres of land in Gomba from a man called Peter Kaddu, at 25 million shillings. He however says the family was disturbed after Captain Tumushabe ordered them off the land claiming that he had bought it from a second man called Christopher Ddamba.
Surprised by the developments, the family forwarded the matter to the Mpigi land tribunal which early this month ruled that the Tumushabe acted wrongfully and ordered him to return the land to the family.
Kinini says that a few days after the ruling, Tumushabe beat the head of the family, William Kairu, into a coma. Kairu died from excessive bleeding at Mulago hospital on Saturday.
Following the death of Kairu, the family fears that Tumushabe may come back to kill them. They have asked the Gomba Member of Parliament, Rose Najemba, to intervene in the matter.
