A draft policy on the elderly is in the offing according to the State Minister for the Elderly and Disabled persons Suleiman Madada.
Madada says the policy seeks to help the elderly lead active lives and influence the conduct of social affairs and their own everyday conditions.
He says the policy will also seek to strengthen mechanisms which help people grow old in security, independence respect and have access to good caring services.
Madada says the draft policy will be tabled in parliament in November.
Meanwhile the Ministry of gender labour and social development has organized a week of activities for the aging persons in Uganda.
Madada says the purpose of the week whose theme is iOlder persons and HIV/AIDSi is to create awareness on the role of the elderly in nurturing and caring for people with HIV/AIDS.
