Lira NRM supporters Fight over Allowances

News
A meeting this afternoon of NRM party supporters in Lira district turned chaotic this when participants started fighting for allowances.
The meeting was convened by officials from the NRM headquarters in Kampala to discuss ways of strengthening the party presence in Lira and Dokolo districts.
The NRM Lira Finance Secretary, Richard Okabo, said party supporters turned rowdy on learning that the two Kampala-based officials had left behind 562,000 shillings to cater for their lunch and transport allowances.
Concerned that the money would not be enough, for the more than 1000 supporters, several participants attacked the party's district youth league executive member, Gillian Akullo, demanding for their share of the money.
One of the participants beat up Akullo after she stopped him from signing money for a party member who did not attend the meeting. She has launched an assault complaint with the police.
Finance Secretary Okabo announced his resignation. He described the incident as a shame and blamed the NRM officials for the chaos.
Okabo said the money left behind by the two officials was not enough to cater for the hundreds of supporters, that turned up for the meeting.
