Kabale Villagers Demand Compensation for Destroyed Tree Plantations

News
A company extending electricity to Rubaya sub-county in Kabale has destroyed several tree plantations in the area, causing losses worth millions of shillings.

Ferdsult Engineering Services, contracted by the Ministry of Energy under the Rural Electrification Program, has cleared several acres of land to erect power lines that will extend electricity from Katuna border post to neighbouring villages.

Families in the affected villages of Rukore, Kihira, Nyamabaare, Nyakitokori, Muguri and Kacerere are angry that their tree plantations were destroyed without their knowledge. They say they did not receive any notice that Ferdsult Engineering Services planned to use their land for the electricity poles and are demanding compensation for the destruction of their property.
