Police in Adjumani Arrest Suspected Rapist

Police in Adjumani have arrested and detained a 26-year-old man on suspicion that he was part of a gang of rapists that have terrorized Agojo and Alere refugee settlement centres.

The Adjumani District Police Commander, George Ocakacan, says Michael Erama, a resident of Palemo village in Adjumani was arrested at his hideout and is assisting the police with their investigation.

Erama is alleged to have attempted to rape a 38 year old woman of Agojo refugee settlement on September 18th, when she had gone to collect firewood. The woman fought back fiercely, sending Erama fleeing.

During the attack, Erama allegedly wounded his victim, who is currently admitted at Adjumani hospital.

According to police records, the gang of rapists have assaulted two other women and attempted to rape several others.

The Adjumani Refugee Desk in the officer of the Prime Minister, Titus Jogo, condemns the violence against the refugees.
