A UPDF soldier attached to the 5th division headquarters in Pader district is on the run, after he shot and killed his colleague over a mobile phone.
The 5th division spokesperson, Anech Mubangizi, says Private Oka Senandongo, fired three shots in Private Ismail Najib's neck, killing him instantly.
Mubangizi says the two had earlier had a disagreement following the disappearance of Najib's Mobile phone. Najib Dragged Senadongo to the army's disciplinary committee, accusing him of stealing his mobile phone. Senadongo was forced to make a statement and later set free.
On returning to his room, Senadongo picked his gun and shot Najib before fleeing the barracks.
The incident comes hardly a week, after another soldier shot and killed seven people including a one-year-old child, in an internally displaced people's camp in Laguti parish.
