Law enforcement officers in Tororo have impounded 68 Boda Boda bicycles in an operation to crackdown park fee defaulters.
Tororo Municipal council Mayor, Jack Ogolla says the operations follows reports that many Boda Boda operators were refusing to pay the 100 shillings park fee.
The park fee introduced at the beginning of this month, has been rejected by most of the Boda boda cyclist who describe it as exploitative. Some cyclists however argue that they would pay the tax on condition that they are given receipts.
But Ogolla explains that the bodaboda tax is an important source of revenue for the council, especially since boda boda traffic in Tororo is on the increase. He says that effective next week, the council will also launch an operation against cyclists without Uniforms and Identification Tags.
