Government has suspended the Hornsleth Village Project in Mukono pending an investigation into the project.
The State Minister for Ethics and Integrity James Nsaba Buturo says government has ordered the Resident District Commissioner and the Mukono District Police Commander to stop the project activities with immediate effect.
The Hornsleth Village project is the brainchild of a Danish artist and filmmaker, Kristian von Hornsleth, whose goal is to have 108 residents of Buteyongera village in Mukono change their names to Hornsleth through the official legal name change process. Each villager received an identity card showing this change.
But critics of the project have expressed concern over the moral implications of the Hornsleth village project. Some religious leaders in Kampala are concerned that asking people to change their names to Hornsleth, could be a way of integrating them into a form of cult movement.
Buturo who visited the project last weekend says there is nothing to show that this is a community project, as the founders claim. A committee has been set up to investigate the project.

The committee comprised mainly of police detectives has been given three weeks to report its findings.
