KCC Mayor Defies Order, Re-instates Interdicted Officials

News
Kampala City Council (KCC) has re-instated three senior officials who were last month interdicted over the alleged illegal sale of a city plot.

The Acting town clerk, Ruth Kijjambu, last month ordered KCC advocate J. B. Karugonjo, his deputy Francis Kakuru, and acting city planner Charles Kyamanywa to leave office, following a directive from local Government ministry Permanent Secretary, Vincent Ssekoono.

The trio is accused of mishandling the sub-lease of plot No.35A, Shauriyako market. Plot 35A is being developed into a four-storied building after the Shauriyako market structures were demolished.

During a council session on Friday, Kampala Mayor, Nasser Ntege Sebagala, maintained that the tree officials were wrongfully interdicted, because they acted on council orders.

Last year, KCC approved the re-development and sub-division of Shauriyako into two, one part to be re-developed by the vendors and another by Nterenfune General Enterprises.

Sebagala said the officials should be re-instated in office effective Monday.
