Lira Municipality Mayor Wants IDP Resettlement Funds Channeled Through Districts

News
The Lira Municipality Mayor, Peter Owiny, wants the IDP resettlement funds sent directly to the districts and not through the prime ministers office.

Government has earmarked about 500 billion shillings for the resettlement of the IDPs in northern Uganda.

Appearing before the Public Service and Local Government Accounts committee of Parliament, Owinyi said the resettlement funds would be utilized more effectively if channeled through the districts.

Owinyi argues that the funds would help the authorities to plan for service delivery in areas where hundreds of people are returning to their homes.

Owiny says the population in the affected districts and urban centers has grown tremendously which could lead to the growth of slums.
