Relief Agencies Seek for Tax Waiver on Relief Items

News
Some Disaster relief organisations are seeking for tax exempt status, to help victims of floods across the country.

The state minister for disaster preparedness, Musa Ecweru says there is an urgent need to address the immediate relief as well as mid- and long-range economic and health challenges posed by the floods.

Ecweru says tax waivers should be given to some agencies which are purchasing relief items like food and blankets locally.

The minister says that his ministry plans to table a bill seeking to tax exemption for relief aid organisations.

Hundreds of people have been affected by the floods. The worst hit areas according to Ecweru are Tororo where floods have swept away several homes in Manjiya Sub County. Equally affected are the residents of Bududa and Butaleja districts.
