Police in Kibaale district are hunting for the Kagadi hospital engineer for the alleged theft of solar panels.
The Kibaale criminal investigations officer, Fred Mirondo, says Christopher Kaheeru stole eight solar panels from the hospital.
Kaheeru's disappearance comes a few days after The District Director of Health Services, Dan Kyamanywa, told the Kibaale Health Management team meeting in Kagadi that a total of 20 solar panels have been stolen from Kagadi Hospital since 1999.
Kyamanywa said the theft of the solar panels has been spread out over the years, making the disappearance of the equipment barely noticeable.
Kyamanywa noted that because of the robberies pumping of water and provision of heated water at the hospital has become very difficult. He said that other hospital services are threatened by the insufficient solar energy provided.
Mirondo says that Kaheeru is the prime suspect because he was in charge of the installation and supervision of the solar panels.
