  • Makerere Resumes Issuance of Transcripts

    Makerere University has resumed issuing academic transcripts almost four months after the system was closed amidst reports of marks alteration. In April, the university closed the online results system it uses to enter and store students examination scores and suspended the issuance of academic transcripts due to alleged fraud. Academic Registrar Alfred Namoah sent results for all the 14,897 students that graduated in February back to their respective colleges/schools for verification before transcripts are processed.

    According to Makerere University Councils approved policy on promotional tracks for academic staff, an Assistant Lecturer is an entry level rank who must have at least a Bachelors Degree with a First Class or Second Class Upper and Masters Degree. While an assistant lecturer at Makerere currently earns 4.8 million or 4.3 million shillings for science and non-science categories, the same salary scale in other public universities attracts a monthly pay of 5.7 million.

    According to the value for money audit by the Auditor General released in December 2016, eight out of 40 selected schools, and two out of the 25 selected health centres were provided with solar packages yet they had either incomplete, non-existent, or inhabitable buildings that could not support the installation.
