Mayuge town council residents face serious health risks resulting from poor Hygiene.
The Mayuge town council mayor, Stanley Bayole, says there is an imminent cholera outbreak, because most residential and business premises do not have toilet facilities.
During a clean up exercise by the Boy scouts and Girl Guides, Bayole said that the problem has been aggravated by people who ease themselves in polythene bags and scatter the waste on the streets and garbage skips.
He said that although the town council authorities were working hard to collect garbage, poor garbage disposal methods have demoralized the council workers.
Bayole wants owners of premises that do not meet the required hygiene standards to be prosecuted.
The Mayuge town Assistant Health Inspector, Irene Nakaziba, says poor hygiene is not only limited to the town, but also in private schools. She says the children are particularly at risk of contracting diseases.
