Amuru Cops Arrested For Hiding Exhibits

Four police officers attached to Atiak police post in Amuru district have been arrested for failing to declare exhibits recovered from a stolen car. The car was intercepted on Friday evening at Atiak Border en-route to Sudan. The officers intercepted the car suspected to have been stolen from Kampala The cops allegedly recovered 3 million shillings, a generator and other items from the car but refused to declare them at Gulu central police station. Phinehas Arinaitwe, the Northern Region Police Commander, says the matter was brought to his attention by some junior officers who were involved in intercepting the stolen car. The junior officers reportedly told him that the four officers were keeping the exhibits. The identities of the four cops remain confidential for fear of investigations. Arinaitwe said both the cops and the car thieves, suspects are being held at Gulu central police station pending investigation. The car thieves are expected to be transferred to Kampala central police station today.
