About 80 percent of the Batwa living in Kabale district are illiterate. This explains their ignorance of basic human rights to education, health and shelter. This is contained in a report from a survey conducted between November and December 2006 by a local NGO- African International Christian Ministry. Launching the report Friday, the Resident District Commissioner Kabale Cox Nyakairu called on local council and civic leaders in Bufundi, Ikumba, Muko and Butanda sub counties to step up efforts in sensitizing the Batwa on the importance of education. He says it's only through education that the Batwa will be liberated from ignorance and poverty. Nyakairu commended Kabale district local government in partnership with ACIM for start infant classes at Rwamahano and Murundi primary schools. He hailed the founding director and Bishop of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo Rt Rev. Enoch Kayeye for his vision in creating a programme to enhance the civilization of the Batwa.
