Francis Acuma, the acting Otuke town clerk is in trouble for the misappropriation of shillings 18 million from the town council coffers.
 
Acuma is being investigated by police over the missing funds following queries raised by the auditor general over the missing funds. The money is question was meant for the implementation of the town council activities.
 
It is alleged that Acuma received the money in June 2010 but have never presented any accountability for the funds.
 
Patrick Ekwire, Otuke district Criminal Investigations officer says that Emmanuel Okello, the district chief finance officer filed a case with police about the money.
 
He says that police opened a case of embezzlement vide CRB 73/2011 against Acuma, adding that investigations are ongoing.
 
 
Okello told police that in June 2010, while working as the town cashier he withdrew shillings 18.1 million from the town council account and handed it over to Acuma.
 
He said despite the fact that Acuma signed for the money he has never presented any accountability. According to Okello the money was meant for the implementation of the administrative activities in the town council.
 
Acuma admitted receiving the money saying that he is trying to recover the money from some staff that received it for various activities, but failed to submit accountability.
 
He said that he has already recovered about one million shillings and that he has deposited it back into the town council account at DFCU Lira branch.
Henry Alyanga, Central North police spokesman says that Acuma has also made counter accusations against Okello saying that he took over five million shillings from the missing money. Okello has dismissed the claim.
