Kinyara sugar limited said this will completely reduce power interruption in the district and boost business.

Kinyara Sugar Company limited will connect power to the national grid, following an agreement with UMEME, Ramalingam Ravi, the engineering manager has said.

Ravi however says this is in the short term and will benefit only Masindi district.

Kinyara sugar limited said this will completely reduce power interruption in the district and boost business. The connection is scheduled to start on Monday or Tuesday next week.

Kinyara sugar factory produces about 14.5 megawatts of power using steam with the help of four turbines and uses less than 9 Megawatts.

The electricity generation process at the factory begins with cane preparation, cane milling and separation of juice from bagas. The Bagas is sent to the boiler where steam is generated. The steam is then fed into turbines and it is from the turbines where electric power is generated.

Ravi said the factory management has agreed to sell off the excess power. He disclosed that once Kinyara switches on its power, Masindi district will not experience power interruptions unless the factory is not running.
