Students of Kigezi High school in Kabale Municipality have thrown out Elaphaz Twin-Buhungiro, the embattled head teacher. It all started on Monday at about 6:30 am when Twin-Buhungiro, who was fired by the school management last week went to supervise the morning preps. Twin-Buhungiro was relieved of his duties recently by the school board of governors in consultations with the Parent’s Teachers Association and Kigezi Diocese, the founding body of the school. He was accused of running down the school.
Trouble for Twin-Buhungiro started after the theft of 40 computers from the school Laboratory, text books, declining performance both at senior four and six and his refusal to stay at the school. But following his sacking, Twin-Buhungiro refused to vacate the school saying that no one will chase him. This morning, students ganged up against the head teacher saying that they would allow him to stay in the school because he was fired. The angry students stormed the head teacher’s office forcingTwin-Buhungiro to flee for his dear life.  Some of the students who spoke to URN on condition of anonymity say that it all started on Sunday after Twin-Buhungiro summoned student leaders and threatened to expel all those who fail to enforce his orders.

This didn't go down well with the students. This morning, the students refused to put on the school uniform and asked the district authorities intervene to remove the embattled head teacher. When our reporter visited Kigezi School this morning, he found teachers seated under trees while the students were wondering around in the compound. A teacher who spoke to URN on condition of anonymity because she is not authorized to speak to the media says that she arrived at the school ready to teach but none of the students showed up for lessons. The teacher explains that when she sent someone to call the students, they told her that they would not attend any classes as Twinobuhungiro is still the head teacher.

Abraham Akampurira, the deputy head teacher who was appointed to care take the school says they had decided to convene a meeting to end the stalemate but the student leaders are reluctant to attend it. By the time of filing this story Bosco Arop, the Kabale district Police Commander, RDC Mathew Moses Elayo and the Bishop of KigeziDiocese George Katwesigye were still locked up in a meeting to address the situation.
