Okello's removal from office followed a statement made during the 21st December 2013 council meeting in which he alleged that the chairman Odongo has been diverting projects from other sub counties to his own home sub county of Omoro without notifying council.

Alebtong district councilors have petitioned the local government ministry protesting the irregular manner in which the District chairperson Angilo Okello Ajoka was removed from office.

Ajoka who has been serving as the vice chairperson since the formation of the district in 2010 was sacked by David Kennedy Odongo, the LCV Chairman on December 24th 2013.

His removal from office followed a statement made during the 21st December 2013 council meeting in which he alleged that the chairman Odongo has been diverting projects from other sub counties to his own home sub county of Omoro without notifying council.

Okello then blamed Odongo over what he considered as overwhelming conflict of interest, and influence peddling.

He claimed a huge sum of money meant for the construction of Akura to Abia 16km road was irregularly diverted to fund a road from Adwir through Okuru to Amuria border in Omoro Sub County about 20km on Odongo’s order.

But Okello and a cross section of other councilors have contested the decision saying it was illegal. They have since petitioned Local Government Minister Adolf Mwesige demanding for his intervention to revoke the removal.

Through his lawyers Acan and Company advocates, Okello threatened legal action against the district over the irregular termination of his appointment. Okello further blames Odongo over what he considered as overwhelming conflict of interest, and influence peddling.

Denis Olwa, the council deputy speaker insists Okello’s removal was against the law and could cost the district. Another councilor Geoffrey Obong wants Okello to be reinstated. He equally faults the district executive committee headed by Odongo over irregular autonomous operation without council involvement.

But on Monday Odongo maintained his decision saying it was done in accordance to article 20 sub section “A” of the local government act.

In his earlier statement to URN, Odongo blamed his former deputy of lacking a principal of collective responsibility claiming that he wasn’t part of the meeting which resolved to divert the said projects.

Alebtong district has about 9 Sub Counties with over 13 local Councilors. In the last financial year Alebtong district had designed to implement about 34 projects in various sectors but only two were successfully completed.
