So far, 11 individuals have picked nomination forms from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party to replace the late Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi, the Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament.

According to Tang Odoi, the NRM party Electoral Commission chairperson, the deadline for picking nomination forms is September 30, 2024, which falls on Monday next week. Odoi emphasized that no interested candidate will be allowed to pick forms beyond this date.
Odoi further called for peace during the election process. However, he did not disclose the exact date when the party elections will take place. The process seeks to replace Nyirabashitsi, who was the State Minister for Defense and Veteran Affairs before passing away on September 7, 2024, after suffering a heart attack.
The Independent Electoral Commission has set November 14, 2024, as the official date for the by-election.
