With support from Twaweza, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Sports, URN conducts community dialogues and information sharing meetings on the School Capitation Grant to public schools in different parts of Uganda. They aim to amplify inforamtion and debate on the school Capitation Grant among the Uganda public.
It specifically addresses gaps in parents‘ knowledge and understanding of their roles and monitoring responsibilities of School management committees.
Participants involve district education officials, headteachers, members of School Management Committees (SMCs), school Board of Governors (BOGs), parents and media representatives.
Views and information generated from these meetings is then broadcast on partner radio stations for the benefit of the wider community.
Between February and June 2015, URN with its partner Radio stations held community dialogues in 30 districts with a participation of 150 schools and over 700 community members.
Twaweza works on enabling children to learn, citizens to exercise agency and governments to be more open and responsive in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
