Airtel Mobile Commerce Uganda (AMCUL) has joined forces with Stabex International, a fuel distribution company, in a strategic partnership aimed at boosting cashless transactions and enhancing digital financial inclusion across Uganda. This initiative will enable Airtel Money customers to conveniently pay for fuel and access other services at Stabex fuel stations using their mobile wallets.
This initiative, is among the many that have been started out to popularize the cashless payments in the country, a desire aspect which is yet to be fully embraced in the country though on a positive trajectory, amidst the numerous campaigns from various sector players.
Speaking at the launch of the partnership, Hope Ekudu, Airtel Money Operations Head, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting its role in promoting digital financial inclusion.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Stabex International in our ongoing effort to deliver innovative, secure, and seamless financial services to our customers. Through this partnership, Airtel Money users can now make cashless transactions for fuel purchases at Stabex stations nationwide,” Ekudu stated.
As part of the collaboration, customers who make cashless payments at Stabex stations will automatically enter into a draw for the opportunity to win prizes through the ongoing “Vroomula Amajja” campaign. Prizes include a brand-new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, motorbikes, and electronic money (e-money). Winners of the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and motorbikes will also receive a full tank of fuel, all to encourage use of cashless payment modes.
Stabex International General Manager Justus Kiptoo lauded the partnership, emphasizing the convenience and security that cashless payments offer. “This collaboration with Airtel Mobile Commerce Uganda simplifies fuel purchases and encourages the use of cashless payments. We are proud to reward our customers with exciting prizes through the Vroomula Amajja promotion, making every cashless transaction more rewarding,” Kiptoo noted.
This partnership comes on the heels of growing mobile money usage in Uganda, as highlighted by the Uganda Communications Commission’s 2024 Quarter 2 report. Mobile money transactions surged to 1.84 billion, reflecting a steady increase from the previous quarter. Airtel Money continues to lead efforts to promote cashless transactions through services like bill payments, international money transfers, mobile banking, and now, fuel payments.
With over 2,000 Airtel Money users already benefiting from rewards in the Vroomula Amajja campaign, which includes 52 motorbikes and daily cash prizes, Airtel aims to foster a future where digital transactions are the norm.
“Airtel Money is revolutionizing how Ugandans transact. We are not only driving the shift to a cashless society but also empowering lives by offering instant, secure, and borderless financial solutions,” Hope Ekudu concluded.
