Valentino Agaba Kwishima Bariburuhe, alias Binaisa, a court bailiff with Agalentine Auctioneers and Court Bailiffs, has applied for bail after being implicated in the murder of a primary school teacher in the Kisoro district.
His application has caused significant concern among the deceased’s relatives. Agaba, 40, a resident of Hamunora village, Katojo town council, Rubanda district, is accused of murdering Calist Sunday, a teacher at Kayihumure Primary School in Bukimbiri sub-county, Kisoro district, and a resident of Nyakarembe village in Bukimbiri.
He is currently on remand at Kisoro Government Prison along with seven other suspects. The incident allegedly occurred on February 17, 2024, around 3:00 AM. A group of locals reportedly knocked on Sunday’s door, requesting his help to rush a patient to the hospital.
However, a few meters away from his home, the group turned on Sunday and killed him, also stealing his mobile phone. Police tracked the phone, leading to the arrest of the suspects, including Agaba.
Agaba, through his lawyer Felix Bakanyemonera of Bakanyebonera & Company Advocates, applied for bail, citing health complications. Justice Samuel Emokor of the Kabale High Court has adjourned the matter until May 29, 2024.
Speaking to our reporter after the court session, the deceased’s relatives, led by his brother Naricensio Bigyiromuhangi, expressed anger and concern that granting Agaba bail could jeopardize the investigation.
In contrast, Agaba’s relatives, led by Jenifer Nyesigyire, argue that he is being harassed over family land disputes, exacerbated by some family members who work in higher government offices.
