Bugisu Cooperative Union Ltd (BCU) has sponsored 274 students for tertiary education, providing them with bursaries funded by the union’s coffee sales profits. BCU General Manager, Barbra Wasagali, announced on Wednesday afternoon, posting the list of successful applicants on the notice board.

She revealed that students from all nine BCU zones had applied, underwent a rigorous selection process, and have now been notified. The scholarship funds have already been transferred to the respective university accounts.

Wasagali encouraged farmers to continue supporting the union by entrusting it with their coffee, emphasizing that the sponsorship initiative is part of BCU’s broader commitment to community development. BCU Board Treasurer, Nathan Mabonga, explained that the bursary scheme, which is funded by the union’s coffee profits, is a way for BCU to give back to its community.

He highlighted that UGX 250 million was allocated for student support this year alone and urged the beneficiaries to focus on their studies and make the most of the opportunity. Among the bursary recipients, Nasimolo Aaron and Bwayo Lazarus expressed their gratitude to the Board Chair, Nandala Mafabi, and the entire management for the opportunity. They both pledged to excel in their academic pursuits.
