Two young men from Rubuguri Town Council, Kisoro District, are currently in police custody for allegedly killing their 59-year-old biological father in a dispute over a bride price payment. The suspects, identified as Davis Harerimana, a 20-year-old bricklayer, and Keneth Tukamuhabwa, also 20, a student at Rutaka Community Secondary School, have been accused of murdering their father, Silver Mushabe, a resident of Igobero Village, Nombe Ward, on October 20, 2024.
The incident reportedly began after Mushabe sold a piece of land for an unspecified sum of money. Following the sale, Harerimana demanded that his father hand over the money so he could pay the bride price and reconcile with his wife, from whom he had been recently divorced due to the unpaid dowry.
When Mushabe refused to comply, Harerimana allegedly became enraged, enlisted the help of Tukamuhabwa and other accomplices who are still at large and attacked his father with a sharp machete, resulting in Mushabe’s death. After the fatal attack, the suspects are said to have disposed of Mushabe’s body by dumping it in a nearby swamp.
According to Elly Maate, the police spokesperson, the body was discovered on Wednesday evening, leading to the arrest of Harerimana and Tukamuhabwa, who were found hiding. They have since been taken to Kisoro Police Station, where investigations are ongoing. The case has been officially registered at Kisoro Police Station under file number CRB 769/24, as authorities continue to search for the remaining suspects involved in the incident.
