Christians at Bugembe Cathedral in Busoga Diocese are working to raise 40 million Shillings to complete the Vicarage house, which has stalled for nearly two years. A task force, led by Sarah Awebwa Mukyala Nyanja, deputy headteacher of Wanyange Girls, is leading the fundraising effort.
Nyanja emphasized the urgency of completing the house to prevent embarrassment for both the cathedral and the diocese. The committee members believe that finishing the Vicarage house would be a significant achievement and are confident that, with collective effort, the target amount can be reached.
Nabula Moses, a planning committee member, has called on the community to support the cause, highlighting its importance. Mukisa Ronald added that a completed house would enhance the respect and appearance of the cathedral, which currently suffers from the lack of a vicar’s residence.
Rev. Canon Mathias Katiiko, Vicar of Christ Cathedral Bugembe, expressed appreciation for the contributions received so far and encouraged continued support. He stressed that the funds are needed not only to finish the house but also to construct a perimeter wall, install electricity, and paint the building. Katiiko confirmed that the total budget required is 40 million Shillings. The Vicarage house is crucial for the diocese as it serves as a base for the reverend to oversee diocesan activities.
