Busoga Kingdom Sees Boost in Tourism and Development

The Kyabazinga, William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV, attended the Kagulu Rock Climbing Challenge on August 17, 2024, in Buyende District, Kagulu Sub-county. The event featured various activities, including the Miss Tourism Busoga competition, boxing matches, and traditional wrestling.

 

The Kyabazinga expressed his gratitude to the Kagulu community and Budiope Chiefdom for embracing tourism, which has led to an increase in visitors and community development. He observed the Miss Tourism Busoga competition and crowned Kagoya Lisa as the new Miss Busoga Queen.

 

Kagoya, representing Bugweri Chiefdom, outperformed contestants from various chiefdoms within the Obwa Kyabazinga. She delivered outstanding performances on stage and impressed the judges with her articulate answers.

 

The Kyabazinga also presented Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga with certificates of recognition for her significant contributions to the Busoga community. Other contestants were appointed as brand ambassadors for various companies.

 

In his address, the Kyabazinga mentioned that the kingdom is working on securing a land title for the Kagulu Rock tourism site by next year. Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga also urged the Prime Minister to assist in acquiring this land title.

 

Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga pledged her continued support for the youth, specifically promising to assist Nkwesiga Salimah, 21, who won the boxing competition. Salimah had dropped out of school after completing P.7 due to financial difficulties and joined a local boxing club.

 

Hellen Namutamba, Minister for Tourism and Cultural Heritage, thanked the President for his sponsorship in the tourism sector and promised an even larger event next year. She added that the President has committed to establishing a tourism school in Kagulu, tarmacking the road leading to the site, and constructing a modern market for the Kagulu community to further boost tourism.

 

Dr. Joseph Muvawala, Prime Minister of the Obwa Kyabazinga, praised the Kyabazinga’s dedication to the Busoga community. Speaking to the press, Mulilile Daniel, a community member, thanked the dignitaries and the Kyabazinga, stating that the event would spur economic development in the area. He also presented cows worth 3.6 million shillings to the Kyabazinga and Minister Kadaga as tokens of appreciation.
