Bugisu Cooperative Union (BCU) has unveiled the coffee prices for the new season, setting the rates at UGX 12,000 per kilogram for premium coffee and UGX 11,500 for G1 coffee. These prices include transport and commission costs.
The BCU Board Treasurer, Nathan Mabonga, says that the board’s commitment to maintaining favorable prices and improving payment systems ensures instant cash payouts. He noted that the new system is being designed to handle the large number of farmers affiliated with BCU.
Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the BCU Board Chairperson has urged farmers to refrain from selling their coffee to multinational companies, accusing them of exploiting farmers. He emphasized that if all Bamasaaba farmers directed their coffee to BCU, their needs would be met efficiently and promptly.
The General Manager, Barbra Wasagali has stressed the importance of quality control. She assures farmers that all coffee will be thoroughly inspected before being processed, and urged them to bring only high-quality beans to the union. Wasagali has also reassured farmers that payments would be made in cash.
BCU’s main objective is to collect coffee from local farmers and secure favorable market opportunities for them, ensuring they receive fair compensation and support.
