The construction of a four-classroom permanent block at Butanda Secondary School in Butanda Sub-county, Ndorwa West County, Kabale District, is now 94 percent complete, according to the contractor.

Amos Akatwijuka, an engineer with JUT Projects Limited, said the company was awarded the UGX 350 million contract in November 2024 and is expected to complete the work by July 2025. He noted that roofing and finishing works are nearly complete.

Akatwijuka added that the remaining six percent of the work—mainly the installation of doors, window frames, and glass—will be finalized in July.

Rev. Norman Tumwesigye, the Kinyamari Church of Uganda parish priest and overseer of the school, described the project as a major relief. He said the school has struggled for years to offer a conducive learning environment.

According to Rev. Tumwesigye, the school currently enrolls about 200 students and has been using a classroom block constructed by parents 15 years ago, which is now in a dilapidated condition.

During an inspection visit on Monday evening, the Minister of State for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives and area MP, David Bahati, said additional efforts are underway to construct more facilities, including a science laboratory, computer lab, and to extend electricity to the school.

Located about a kilometer from the Uganda–Rwanda border, the school was established by parents 17 years ago and was later taken over by the government.
