A 25-year-old man, identified as Gerevazio Kamugyisha, is in police custody in Rubanda District for allegedly killing his biological brother over a food dispute. The incident occurred on Sunday, October 20, 2024, in Birara village, Muyanje ward, Bubare Town Council.

Kamugyisha reportedly attacked his 35-year-old brother, Deusi Muhereza, after Muhereza brought posho and beans to their mother, whose identity has been withheld for security reasons. Kamugyisha expressed his anger over what he perceived as a recurring issue, accusing Muhereza of frequently bringing posho instead of rice.

The argument escalated into a violent confrontation. During the altercation, Kamugyisha grabbed a small hoe and struck Muhereza in the head multiple times, resulting in Muhereza’s instant death. Elly Maate, the police spokesperson for the Kigezi region, stated that police intervened and arrested Kamugyisha as residents attempted to lynch him.

Kamugyisha has a criminal history; he was recently released from Ndorwa government prison after serving a 10-month sentence for malicious damage and possession of marijuana. The case is currently registered at Rubanda Police Station under file number CRB 401/2024.
