The Court of Appeal commenced the hearing of 25 criminal appeals at Kabale High Court on Monday. The cases include 15 for murder, 7 for aggravated defilement, 2 for rape, 1 for robbery, and 1 for manslaughter.
This marks the second time the court is sitting in the Kigezi region. The three-day sessions are presided over by Justices Irene Mulyagonja, Christopher Gashirabake, and Eva Luswata.
Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera and Justice Mulyagonja expressed their readiness to perform their duties during the sessions.
Godfrey Nyakahuma, Kabale Resident District Commissioner, and Justus Muhangi, the head of the bar for the Kigezi region, highlighted that extending this service to Kabale will reduce the financial burden on affected individuals who would otherwise have to travel to Kampala.
