The Islamic Unity Week Conference, organized by the Cultural Consulate of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in collaboration with several Ugandan universities, addressed several pressing issues affecting the Muslim community.
The event aimed to promote unity among Muslims while addressing the challenges of division, ignorance, and external threats that undermine the Ummah.
Among the central topics discussed was the need for Muslim leaders to resist the allure of seeking solutions to internal problems in non-Muslim countries.
Prof. Adam Ssebyala Al-Maliky, an academic professor and author, highlighted the importance of adhering to the wisdom and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), urging leaders to draw from the Prophet’s legacy of tolerance and dialogue.
Dr. Tamouh Moustafa, the Syrian Honorary Consul, emphasized that ignorance and illiteracy are exploited by adversaries of Islam to incite internal strife. He called for a unified Muslim response to counter such divisive tactics, reinforcing the necessity of following the Quran’s teachings.
Muhammad Kibirige Mayanja, founder and chairman of the Forum for Justice (JEEMA) and former presidential candidate, passionately addressed the crises in the Middle East, particularly the genocide in Gaza. He questioned the silence of Muslim nations in the face of atrocities and advocated for a collective, forceful response from the global Muslim community.
The conference also highlighted the importance of fostering peace, kindness, and harmony among Muslims. Participants urged the rejection of divisive interpretations of Islam, with Sheikh Yusuf Mulumba Mayirikiti, Director of the Quran and Itra Association, pointing out that those who incite disunity are external forces seeking to weaken the Muslim community.
Closing the event, Haji Asuman Basalirwa, chairman of the Muslim Parliamentary Forum and Member of Parliament for Bugiri Municipality, stressed the urgency of reflecting on the teachings of Prophet Muhammad in all interactions. He emphasized that unity is essential for challenging oppression and fostering positive change.
