The Jinja Indians Association in partnership with the Indo Africa Charitable Society, has launched a free medical camp for the Busoga community. The camp, officially commenced on Monday, August 5th, and will run until August 15th at Busoga Square in Jinja City.
The camp offers a range of free medical services, including dental treatment, general treatment, eye care, orthopedic care, and gynecological services.
Kotecha Piyush, Chairperson of the Indians Association Uganda, anticipates that over 40,000 people will attend the camp for treatment. He noted that this is the fourth camp in the region, aimed at improving the health status of the Busoga community.
Vasant Lakhani, President of Indo Africa, stated that their organization aims to enhance the lives of communities in regions such as Busoga, Bugisu, and West Nile. He added that they have donated medicines, wheelchairs, sewing machines, and provided free medical care to achieve this goal.
Owek Osman Noor Ahmed, the 2nd Prime Minister of Busoga Kingdom and chief guest at the event, commended the association for their services to the Busoga community,
highlighting that health has become a significant challenge in the region. He encouraged the Indian community to invest further in the health sector for the well-being of the community.
Gulume Balyaino, the Jinja District RDC, praised the association for their support to the less privileged and urged them to continue investing in the community, noting the supportive, secure, and conducive environment.
Beneficiaries of the camp, including Namakula Hadijah, Baguma Elvis, and Ezira, expressed their gratitude to the Indian community for the initiative, which has provided them with medicines, wheelchairs, and other essential items.
