Taxi drivers plying the Kabale-Mbarara Highway and the Kabale-Katuna and Katuna-Rubaya-Butanda roads are feuding with the Cross Country Transport Company over passengers and route charts.
Cross Country Transport Company, traditionally known for transporting high-end travelers directly from Kabale town to Kigali in Rwanda and vice versa, recently began making stopovers to pick up passengers along the way.
Additionally, the company extended its route to include the Kabale-Mbarara Highway, angering local taxi drivers. On Monday, upset taxi drivers blocked the Cross Country Transport Company from loading passengers and leaving their office in the Bus Park at Mwanjari Cemetery Business Centre.
The confrontation escalated with both factions exchanging bitter words until security authorities, led by Godfrey Nyakahuma, Kabale Resident District Commissioner, and Joseph Bakaleke, District Police Commander, intervened in the afternoon and ordered both parties to vacate the area.
yakahuma called for calm and promised to hold a meeting with both parties soon to find a possible solution.
