The Diocese of Kigezi has launched the Bishop’s Development Fund (BDF) program as a strategy to sustain its strategic development plans.
According to Canon Baryantuma Munono, the Diocesan Head of Laity, this first-of-its-kind program aims to establish a 3.1 billion shillings mansion along the Kabale-Kisoro road to replace the current structures housing the diocesan book center. Munono stated that the construction of the structure, projected to begin in November 2024, has already been endorsed by all diocese stakeholders.
David Bahati, a Diocesan Synod member and Minister of State for Trade, noted that once the construction is complete, the resulting income will help the diocese become financially independent, reducing its reliance on donations from the congregation.
Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, mentioned that the income generated from the completed mall will enhance the diocese’s ability to fund the gratuities given to retired priests, an initiative started by emeritus Bishop George Bagamuhunda.
