Residents of Rwakihiirwa village in Kamuganguzi sub-county, Kabale district, were left in shock on Thursday evening after discovering a dead body in a swamp along Kabale-Katuna road.
Abraham Niwagaba, the area village LC1 chairman, said he was alerted by a young boy who was rearing goats about the body. Upon arriving at the scene with other locals, they found the body of a man in his 40s.
Niwagaba said they immediately contacted the police. However, efforts to identify the deceased have so far been unsuccessful. According to Elly Maate, the police spokesperson, preliminary investigations suggest that the man was murdered, as his body was found with sharp bruises, indicating foul play before being dumped in the swamp.
Maate said the body has been taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem as investigations continue. He also called upon the public to check the hospital morgue if they have any missing persons. The case is registered at Kabale Police Station under file number CRB 762/2024.
