A man in Rukungiri district is under police detention for allegedly hacking his two-year-old daughter. The suspect is Willy Musinguzi, a porter at a construction site and resident of Nyamayenje A village, Ndorero ward Southern division, Rukungiri municipality. It is alleged that on Monday evening, Musinguzi picked up his daughter Rachel Owembabazi from the home of Mauda Koshaba and John Turyahabwe, her grandparents.
Owembabazi together with her sister Barbra Ainomugisha, 6, started staying with their grandparents in January 2024 after Musinguzi separated from his wife Elizabeth Namutebi Zainabu. After Musinguzi took Owembabazi to his home, he spent a few minutes and later returned with her armed with a machete.
On reaching the compound, Musinguzi put Owembabazi down, made her face the ground, and chopped off her neck. Owomugisha who was witnessing the incident made an alarm that attracted Koshaba. She also raised an alarm that attracted locals. Residents arrested Owomugisha and handed him over to police.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson confirmed the incident and described it as barbaric. Maate says that the deceased’s body was taken to Rwakabengo HC3 mortuary pending postmortem. He adds that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
