The Ministry of Health has dismissed reports circulating on social media that suggest a resurgence of COVID-19 in Uganda. In a statement released on Wednesday, the Ministry clarified that the alarming messages are based on outdated clips being re-shared by unscrupulous individuals seeking to mislead the public.

“The national COVID-19 situation remains stable and fully under control,” said Dr. Charles Olaro, the Director General of Health Services. “There is no current resurgence, and we continue to monitor the situation closely.”

The Ministry emphasized that Uganda’s surveillance and response systems, developed over the past years, remain active and capable of detecting public health threats. Officials assured the public that the country is also keeping a close watch on new COVID-19 variants being reported globally and is working in collaboration with international stakeholders to ensure preparedness.

Dr. Olaro encouraged anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms to visit the nearest health facility for appropriate diagnosis and management. He also urged the public to uphold preventive measures, including handwashing with clean water and soap or using alcohol-based sanitizers. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health and called on Ugandans to rely only on credible information from official sources.
