Police have launched investigations after a prominent businesswoman who went missing from Muhanga Town Council in Rukiga District earlier this week was found dead in Ntungamo District. Shamillah Kanshabomwe, alias Kyarenga, a resident of Mubira Village in Nyanja Parish, Maziba Sub-county, disappeared on Monday after unknown individuals abducted her from Stabex Fuel Station in Muhanga Town Council, located along the Kabale-Mbarara Highway.
She was picked up just a few metres from her business premises, Kyarenga Pub and Accommodation. Her body was discovered on Saturday night near a bridge in Rubaare Town Council, Ntungamo District, according to Amon Mushabe, a neighbour from Muhanga. Mushabe said the body bore deep cuts and severe bruises, suggesting she had been tortured and murdered.
Police responded to the scene and transported the body to Itojo Hospital in Ntungamo District for a postmortem examination. Police had not yet issued an official statement regarding the killing by the time of publishing this story.
