More than eighty students from Katende Progressive and Vocational Secondary School have received their certificates from the Directorate of Industrial Training-DIT in various vocational courses during a graduation ceremony held on the school grounds on Friday afternoon.
The students graduated after completing various levels in bricklaying, motor vehicle engineering, electrical installation, fashion and designing. Two students received certificates for completing their advanced certificate in Islamic studies.
Steven Walakira, the head teacher of Katende Progressive and Vocational Secondary School, emphasized the school’s innovative approach to 21st-century education.
“We are a model school,” he stated. “We offer a balanced education curriculum, including vocational skills and theology. Today, the world has advanced in technology, and we are blessed that Allah has endowed this school with love. Our students excel in all spheres, completing six-hour assessments in just two hours. Some of our graduates are among the best at higher institutions of learning.”
Dr. Yusuf Ssemanda Kyeyune, the school’s director, expressed his gratitude to Almighty Allah for helping him realize his dream of establishing such an impactful institution.
Johnson Turyamuesimira, the Qualifications Principal Officer of the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT), who presided over the event, expressed his delight at witnessing the students’ accomplishments.
“I have never seen young people graduate in three different areas. We have been benchmarking globally, but we have only seen dual curriculums. Katende Progressive has achieved something remarkable. As a country, we aim to equip Ugandans with skills that match job market demands. There are jobs available, but often people lack the appropriate qualifications. As we venture into new industries like oil and grass, the need for skilled individuals is critical.”
He also acknowledged the crucial role parents play in supporting their children’s education and urged more parents to consider enrolling their children in schools like Katende Progressive. “Let’s prioritize education over luxuries. Our children need theological, secular, and vocational knowledge. We appeal to the government to support schools that offer such comprehensive education.”
The graduation ceremony was a testament to Katende Progressive and Vocational Secondary School’s dedication to nurturing well-rounded students prepared for the future’s challenges and opportunities.
