Moses Kamuntu Mwongyera, the Rubanda West County Member of Parliament, has stated that he will not support the censure motion against commissioners involved in the service award saga. Kamuntu expressed his stance on Saturday while representing Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of Information and National Guidance, as the chief guest during the celebration of 42 years of St. Adrian Seminary Rubanda in Kabale diocese (Rubanda District).
Commissioners Prossy Mbabazi Akampurira Begumisa (Rubanda District Woman MP), Solomon Silwany (Bukooli Central), Esther Afoyochan (Zombo District), and Mathias Mpuuga (Masaka) are accused of awarding themselves UGX 1.7 billion as a service award. Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo is collecting signatures to censure the commissioners.
However, Kamuntu argued that he has no reason to side with the legislators accusing the commissioners, especially when the government has been failing to rehabilitate tourism roads in the Kigezi sub-region, despite the substantial revenue generated daily by Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Bwindi Mgahinga National Park. He suggested that the legislators collecting signatures should first demand that the government explain why these roads have not been upgraded.
Kamuntu also used the platform to call for discipline among learners to secure their academic future. Akampurira and Silwany, who also attended the celebrations, did not address the accusations against them. Instead, they urged parents to invest in their children’s education, emphasizing its importance for their future success.
Monsignor Vianney Sunday, Kabale diocese Vicar General, during his sermon, urged Christians to appreciate the places where God has placed them, suggesting that it is part of a greater purpose.
