His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, has expressed profound sadness at the demise of Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
The two, along with three others, perished in a helicopter crash on Sunday evening while returning from the Iranian border with Azerbaijan after official duties.
In his condolences conveyed to the Iranian Ambassador, H.E. Majid Saffar, at the Iranian embassy in Kampala on Monday afternoon, Sheikh Mubaje described President Raeisi’s passing as a sorrowful moment.
“I was on TV following the rescue efforts until 2 am because it looked like there was hope that they would be found alive. However, this was Allah’s arrangement. This is a sad moment for the Muslim world,” he said.
“We pray for the souls of the deceased and their families. We pray that Allah gives us the best out of this. We express our heartfelt condolences to the people of Iran and the Supreme Leader of Iran,” he added. Sheikh Mubaje noted that the late President Raeisi “has been a good example, and we shall miss him.”
Ambassador Saffar acknowledged the significant setback their country faces with the loss of their president. He praised the Mufti and the people of Uganda for standing with Iran during this challenging time.
Sheikh Mubaje later signed the condolence book and offered prayers for the deceased Iranian officials.
