The 9th International Islamic Conference, organized under the patronage of His Majesty King Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud, the Custodian of the Two Holy Sanctuaries of Makkah and Medina, has officially concluded after four days of deliberations in the Holy City of Makkah. The conference brought together high-profile personalities from across the globe, including His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda. The final communiqué issued at the conference contained nine key recommendations:
The conference reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Participants called for an immediate cessation of all forms of aggression and genocide in Gaza and urged the international community, including humanitarian agencies, NGOs, and relief organizations, to provide all necessary support to ease the suffering of the Palestinian people.
A call was made for all Muslims to adopt a moderate and balanced approach in Islamic religious discourses to combat extremism, fanaticism, laxity, and atheism. This can be achieved through the consolidation of fatwa issuances by legitimate Muslim leadership and the proper training and empowerment of Imams, preachers, and Muslim propagators.
The importance of regulating fatwa issuances in accordance with Sharia legal texts was emphasized to preserve the common good and prevent mischief in communities, especially in light of contemporary challenges.
The communiqué called for increased coordination, cooperation, and exchange of visits, expertise, and experiences among member states in Islamic affairs, and for strengthening relations with Islamic bodies, institutions, and centers.
The development of quality programs to promote the values of tolerance and coexistence was highlighted, with the aim of preventing social evils such as violence and sectarianism based on religion or ethnicity.
The conference emphasized the importance of promoting citizenship, unity, and the renunciation of division and discord to achieve stability within Muslim communities.
The communiqué encouraged the exchange of expertise and experiences among member states regarding the construction and maintenance of mosques, while enhancing the efficiency of mosque personnel to elevate the Islamic messages delivered both physically and spiritually.
The use of the best and most suitable media as a means of communication was recommended to disseminate the tolerant messages of Islam and its civilization to a wider audience.
The conference called for cooperation and the exchange of experiences among member states in the area of endowments, with an emphasis on activating their roles in achieving sustainable development and creating awareness within Muslim communities and institutions about their importance.
The communiqué concluded with special gratitude towards His Majesty King Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud and His Highness Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince, for their tireless efforts in the service of Islam and Muslims globally.
Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, is expected to return home on the evening of Thursday, August 8th, 2024.
