Parliament has resolved to form a Select Committee to investigate allegations of corruption in the signing of contracts relating to the Standard Gauge Railway project. This followed a petition by Members of Parliament calling for an inquiry into how a contract reportedly worth 8.5 billion US dollars or 22 trillion shillings, was awarded to a Chinese company to construct the Eastern route of the railway. Government’s reluctance to respond to these claims fuels speculation which begs the question; Are the allegations true?
