As Rule 155(1) of the Parliament’s Rules of Procedure stipulates, the Committee on Appointments is responsible for approving on behalf of Parliament, the appointment of persons nominated by the President under the Constitution or any other appointment required to be approved by Parliament under any law. The Speaker of Parliament Chairs the Committee and receives the list of names nominated for appointment on behalf of the Committee. A name is considered approved provided the votes cast in favour of that candidate constitute a simple majority of the Committee Members present. What does the Committee consider before reaching such a decision?
