A 49-year-old private security guard was lynched in Rukiga District following a failed armed robbery attempt.

The deceased, identified as Bosco Muganiizi, a resident of Nyakanengo Village I, Rutare Ward in Muhanga Town Council, was reportedly attached to TAC Security Company.

On Wednesday night, Muganiizi and a group of unidentified accomplices, armed with a gun, bow, and arrows, stormed a local bar owned by a one Senior Mbarinawe in Nyakanengo Village and ordered patrons to sit down and surrender their money.

However, a customer only identified as Elijah managed to overpower Muganiizi, triggering a scuffle. As the fight broke out, the other suspects fled the scene while other patrons joined in to subdue the attacker.

According to eyewitness Donozio Orikiriza, Muganiizi was overpowered and beaten into a coma. He was rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.
